Inclusive Climate Action
for Resilient Communities

Empowering youth, women and vulnerable communities to lead climate resilience and economic transformation across the Lake Victoria Basin.

We recognize a hard truth: ambition alone is not enough where resources are scarce and opportunities uneven. Across our communities, youth, women, and vulnerable groups carry the burden of potential without the means to sustain it. Young people, driven yet constrained by immediate economic pressures, often abandon promising ventures, while women and marginalized populations continue to navigate limiting norms and restricted access to resources. We exist to change this trajectory. By delivering tailored, informed, and market-responsive support, ARHICA transforms uncertainty into opportunity, empowering individuals to invest with confidence, persist with purpose, and thrive beyond systemic barriers. We are not just responding to need; we are redefining possibility for inclusive, sustainable economic growth

Empowering Communities for Climate Resilience

AfriResilience Hub for Inclusive Climate Action (ARHICA) is a non-profit organization rooted in Kisumu City within the Lake Victoria Basin.

We empower youth, women, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable groups to drive inclusive climate resilience and economic transformation. The Lake Victoria Basin reflects Africa's development crossroads — declining fisheries, climate shocks, youth unemployment, food insecurity, and exclusion from decision-making.

ARHICA responds by turning these challenges into opportunities through community-led, evidence-based, and inclusive solutions that link climate action, food systems, governance, and enterprise development.

Vision & Mission

Guiding our work towards a resilient and inclusive Africa

Our Vision

An Africa where climate resilience and food systems are inclusive, just and community-led. We envision thriving communities where everyone — especially the most vulnerable — actively shapes their climate-resilient future.

Our Values

Inclusivity, community ownership, evidence-based action, transparency, and climate justice guide everything we do. We believe lasting change comes from within communities, not imposed from outside.

Flagship Initiatives

Integrated solutions demonstrating how climate resilience drives jobs, inclusion, and economic growth.

Crop Production/Agriculture

Climate-Resilient Root Crop Production (Sweet Potatoes/OFSP)

In response to changing climate patterns and declining soil fertility, ARHICA promotes the cultivation of resilient root crops, particularly Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potatoes (OFSP), as a sustainable and nutrition-sensitive agricultural enterprise. OFSP thrives in diverse agro-ecological conditions, requires relatively low inputs, and offers high yields, making it ideal for youth and smallholder farmers seeking reliable and climate-adaptive livelihoods. By strengthening production systems, facilitating access to improved planting materials, and supporting value addition, ARHICA aims to build a robust root crop value chain. Strategic linkages with established processors such as Getonganya OFSP Processing Factory will enhance market access, aggregation, and commercialization opportunities for farmers. Beyond direct consumption, OFSP offers versatile uses in flour production, providing a viable alternative to imported wheat while improving food and nutrition security through its rich vitamin A content. Through training, aggregation models, and enterprise development support, ARHICA seeks to scale up production, reduce post-harvest losses, and position root crops as a key driver of rural economic transformation.
Key Focus Areas & Indicators • Number of youths and farmers trained and engaged in OFSP production
• Acreage under root crop cultivation and adoption of improved varieties
• Volume of OFSP supplied to processors and local markets
• Value addition initiatives (e.g., OFSP flour, baked products)
• Market linkages and partnerships with processing facilities and buyers
• Household nutrition improvement and dietary diversification outcomes
Impact Enhanced climate resilience among farmers, increased and diversified incomes, improved food and nutrition security, reduced dependency on imported wheat, and strengthened local agro-processing value chains for sustainable community livelihoods.

Apiculture Production

Apiculture Production (Beekeeping)

Apiculture presents a sustainable, climate-smart agricultural venture with high potential to engage youth in income generation while promoting biodiversity conservation. ARHICA recognizes the untapped opportunity within the Western and Nyanza regions, where rich river systems, diverse flora, and favorable ecological conditions provide an ideal environment for beekeeping. By equipping youth with modern apiculture skills, we aim to transform livelihoods through the production and commercialization of high-value bee products such as honey and beeswax, offering dual economic benefits. Through structured training, access to appropriate technologies (such as modern beehives and processing equipment), and market linkages, ARHICA seeks to position youth at the center of a growing green economy. Apiculture not only enhances household incomes but also contributes to environmental sustainability through pollination, which supports agricultural productivity and ecosystem health
Key Focus Areas & Indicators • Number of youths trained and actively engaged in apiculture enterprises
• Establishment and management of modern beekeeping units (apiaries)
• Volume and value of honey and beeswax produced and marketed
• Access to markets, value addition, and cooperative development
• Environmental conservation and biodiversity enhancement outcomes
Impact Increased youth participation in sustainable agriculture, diversified income streams, improved household economic resilience, strengthened value chains in the blue and green economy, and enhanced biodiversity conservation through eco-friendly production systems

Environmental Restoration Partnerships

We are restoring ecosystems while rebuilding community responsibility for nature. ARHICA leads integrated environmental restoration initiatives including reforestation, wetland recovery, and landscape rehabilitation, anchored in community participation. By engaging schools, youth groups, and local institutions, we cultivate environmental stewardship as a shared responsibility and a long-term investment.
Key Focus Areas & Indicators:
• Number of trees planted and survival rates
• Hectares of land restored (wetlands, degraded landscapes)
• Community participation levels in restoration activities
• Biodiversity recovery and reduction in soil erosion
Impact: Revived ecosystems, strengthened climate resilience, enhanced biodiversity, and empowered communities actively safeguarding their environment.
